Volunteer Opportunities
Being good stewards of God's gifts to us is a Christian obligation. St. Mary's parish offers many opportunities for parishioners to use their time and talents to fulfill this obligation and to assist in the liturgy of the Mass and other programs offered by the Church and St. Mary's School. Readers......proclaim the Word of God at Sunday liturgies. Schedules are for two weeks at a time during the church year. Ushers......serve as ministers of hospitality to the assembly of God's people. They also ring the church bells to call the people to worship, take up the collection, and assist with people's needs during the liturgy. They serve for a full month at a particular liturgy, about four times a year. Confirmed men and women are welcome. Greeters.....extend a welcome to those gathered for funerals and special liturgies. Offer worship aids when requested. Sacristans......assist with the preparation of gifts and altar items for liturgies. They also give seasonal assistance with environmental decoration during the church year. Mass Servers......serves acolyte in every celebration of the Eucharist at St. Mary's. Fourth graders and older, including adults. may serve. Music Ministries......serve in the Parish Choir, Resurrection Choir, Folk Group, Youth Choir, and/or Children's Choir. Cantors......lead the assembly in song, either as an individual or as a member of a group. Instrumentalists......Enhance our worship with solo instruments or as members of an ensemble or accompaniment to a choral group. Church Decorating......assist in decoration the church for liturgical seasons and for special events. Liturgy Committee......assist in overseeing and planning the liturgy for the parish. This committee works closely with the Pastor and Music & Liturgy Coordinator in preparing for the feasts and seasons of the liturgical year. (Three year term) |
Catechists for Grades 1-11.....instruct children and young adults in the teachings and practices of the Roman Catholic faith, sacramental preparation s well as participate in seminars and retreats depending on grade level.
R.C.I.A. Team Member......assist in the preparation of those seeking full communion with the Catholic Church. Teach several sessions, work with the rest of the team in preparing for special events and liturgies in which candidates and catechumens will participate. Marriage Preparation as Sponsor Couple......serve as a sponsor couple for one or two engaged couples per year. Sponsor couples meets 2 to 3 times with an assigned couple to discuss various aspects of marriage. Training is provided. St. Mary's School......serve as assistant in the classroom, or in the main office. Home & School Association......this is similar to public school PTA, an association of parents with children at St. Mary's School. This association encourages volunteerism, builds community, enhances communication between parents and administration, participates in fundraising projects. St. Mary's Board of Education......direct all education programs of the parish, including coordination, fiscal and personnel matters in cooperation with the school and religious education administration. Adult Faith Formation Groups......anyone interested in joining an adult faith formation group may call the parish office. Such groups meet monthly, and more often during Lent, for Bible Study or discussion of various religious and faith issues. Anyone may form such a group, and meet with the pastor to develop a plan.
